What is Multichannel Ecommerce?

So, what is multi channel ecommerce?
It basically means selling your products on more than one ecommerce site, and doing it well! You probably started with your own website, or with eBay or Amazon and when sales started to roll in you started to think about other market places. If you sell well on Amazon, there is no reason you can’t sell well on eBay.
So what is the big stumbling block? What makes people shy away? Why is it such a pain in the a***!?
What is the big hoo-hah when it comes to multichannel ecommerce?

Multichannel ecommerce is all about managing your stock, inventory management. You have to get that right, that is the whole point!
You’ve got everything set up. You have got your stock. it starts to sell on Amazon, starts to sell on eBay, starts to sell on your own website and then the whole holiday season begins. It is coming up to Christmas, then you are getting loads of orders. People are running around all over the place and things are looking good! Then what happens? You sell something you don’t have. That you cannot do especially on the likes of eBay and Amazon. You will get your hand smacked badly and deservedly so! That’s why you need a multichannel ecommerce management system. You need your inventory to be synchronising in live time or in very, very short periods of time so that you don’t over sell.
That is it in a nutshell! You want some sort of system to manage your inventory so that you don’t over sell.
There are other great advantages to it too! It means that if you have 20 sales on amazon, or 20 sales on eBay, or 20 sales on your own website it will all feed back into one back office, you just press a button, print all of your invoices, walk around your store room and just pick everything up.
That’s not the only advantage to stock management. You can have all your orders feeding into one centralised area and with a few clicks of a button, you print all your invoices, give them to the person in charge of pick and packing and they just walk around your warehouse picking it and that’s it, you are off to the races. It is efficient, it’s well-oiled and it is executing the idea properly.
You should do it, but don’t go there if you are not prepared to manage your stock! No messing around, no half-baked attempts, no some members of the team want to do it and some don’t. We all have to do it, we all have to be on board and we all have to break old habits and get into the habit of using the new system. It’s really important because if one member doesn’t scan off the stuff properly or doesn’t manage the inventory properly, what is the point?!
If you are a manufacturer this isn’t such a big deal as you can just make more as you are selling them.
But if you are like the majority of other businesses and you are buying the stock in you need to have that on board. It needs to be a well-oiled machine!
